Reliable plumbing is an essential part of living and most homeowners don’t give it much thought until something goes wrong. This is where maintenance plumbing comes in.
Maintenance plumbing is similar to a car service – it’s essentially a regular check-up or service of your household plumbing system. It includes inspection, repair and testing of all your household plumbing, which will prevent and minimise future damage.
Maintenance plumbing is often overlooked, but investing now can prevent bigger, more expensive problems later.
Here are 8 ways your home is telling you to call Seaview Plumbing as soon as possible for plumbing maintenance:
#1 Slow draining water
You’ve finished washing your hands and you notice the water doesn’t go down as quickly as it used to, or you’re having a shower and the water is pooling around your feet!
Slow drainage can happen in your sinks, in the shower or the bath. This could be caused from a build-up of soap scum, toothpaste, hair, and other products that clump together, causing the water to drain away slowly.
This should be fixed as soon as you discover even a hint of the problem, to avoid major damage and blockages to the main sewer line.
#2 Unusual noises
When you get out of the shower, or turn off the garden hose, what noise do you hear?
If you hear rattling, humming or something that sounds like a hammer, you might have a problem.
Banging noises coming from your pipes indicates a problem with water flow, water pressure, unrestrained water pipes or tap washers. If it’s not easy to inspect your pipes yourself, you may need to call Seaview Plumbing to come out and have a look.
#3 Rotten egg smell
Given that there are tonnes of bacteria hanging around kitchen and bathroom pipes, it’s no wonder that sometimes there are a few interesting smells!
If you are noticing the smell of rotten eggs, it is possible that your drain is contaminated or clogged. If you’ve had no luck getting rid of the smell yourself, it’s best to give us a call to check for major blockages.
#4 Hazardous mould
Finding mould growth anywhere in your house is a warning sign of repair required!
Mould is likely to grow in an environment that is full of moisture, and the problem will only get worse if left untreated. Not only does mould growth make your house look and feel grubby, but it could be detrimental to your health.
Mould growth on the walls or cabinets in your bathroom could be a sign of a leaking pipe or fixture, so we recommend getting this looked at immediately.
#5 A clogged toilet… again
Frequent toilet clogs are a sign that something isn’t right.
If your toilet is constantly clogging, we recommend that you call our plumbers immediately to ensure that your toilet isn’t out of action for a while! You may need a toilet replacement, a drain clean with our Hydro Jet or mechanical Drain Cleaner or possibly a sewer line repair. We can identify the cause and identify the location of the problem with our camera and locating equipment and solve your problem.
#6 Weak pressure
There’s nothing worse than jumping into the shower only to find that the water is only trickling out.
See if you can determine if the low water pressure is affecting the whole house or if it is isolated to one area, it could be as simple as a faulty valve on the water line, a blocked shower rose, a faulty tap or more seriously a leaking pipe.
#7 Gurgling toilet
Your toilet should be relatively quiet, until you flush!
If you hear unusual bubbling or gurgling noises in between, it’s usually a sign that your plumbing is faulty.
Potential causes of a gurgling toilet include blocked branch drain or a blocked main sewer line. Continuing to use your toilet that is blocked, or on its way to being blocked, can create bigger issues further down the line.
#8 High water bill
If you notice that your quarterly water bills have increased exponentially, consider calling a plumber to investigate any leaks.
Not only will leaks cause a high water bill but could cause major damage to your walls and floors if the pipes burst, causing the risk of furniture, cabinetry and carpets, being damaged or destroyed. Call us as soon as you realise you might have a hidden leak and prevent any extensive damage to your home and your valuables.
